Notes From The Final Table

No Limit Hold 'em

May 24, 2007 / 05:51:46 EDT

And congratulations to Phil Ivey, your 2007 Mirage Poker Showdown...5th place finisher? Yeah, I didn't see that one coming either. That's poker, a game of (often brutal) upsets. As for our new champ, it's Jon Little. Prior to the final table, Jeremiah Smith, a co-worker and perhaps one of the most intellectual poker fans I know, said to me, "Watch out for Jon Little. He's an online sit n' go specialist. And that's basically what a WPT final table is, a turbo sit n' go."

Moral of the story: Trust the Miah.

So, I just came from the player interviews (which will be up on PokerWire.com shortly) and let me tell you, the 2007 Mirage Poker Showdown final table looks pretty donk-free. Of course Phil Ivey headlines the group, but everyone, even the "no-names," appear to be solid competitors...

Day 4 Recap: Phil Ivey Has an Ace Up His Sleeve

No Limit Hold 'em

May 23, 2007 / 13:02:31 EDT

Phil Ivey is having fun, Gigabet is gigacrazy, and everyone else is just along for the ride. Phil Ivey is always the best player at the table. Give him the chip lead and he goes from being the favorite to the prohibitive favorite. As play slowed down for the day, Ivey only picked up more and more speed. He ended the day as chip leader with 1.395m chips...

That's right, Day 3 of the Mirage Poker Showdown is done already. Who doesn't love a half-day? If I could kiss a half day I would, and I'm sure the 18 remaining players would slip some tongue if they could do that too. Not only are they all in the money, but they now have plenty of time to rest and relax before tomorrow's action (where they'll be playing down to the WPT televised final table)...
